Camp Dennison, Ohio Aug. 2lst Dear Parents Since I wrote the first of this letter or rather the same day I wrote it, some of the boys got a chance to go to the Reg't so I made up my mind I would go along, but the men in charge of the hospital told me I could not go but I packed my things and am now with the Reg't near Nicholasville, Ky., and think I am better than I should have been had I remained at the hospital. We have a fine Camping ground but many of the boys are sick. The Miss. Campaign is just showing its effects but I hope pure air and watter will soon restore good health to all. My being sick I could not get pay when the rest of the boys did but the paymaster says he will pay us again by the 15th of Sept. so I will get along till I get 4 months pay. I have no news to write. The prospects now is fair for us to lay still awhile and rest which we very much need. Please write soon and excuse my past neglect in writing. your ever Affectionate Son J.D.
